I just received an email today from maniro1@hotmail.com that stated they found my resume on careerbuilder.com (that's funny, I don't even remember submitting a resume there). It was very similar to what you have posted:

Our Organization is excited to offer you a job as a"Check Assist Manager".
Basic requirements:

- US residency;
- Customer Service Orientation
- You should be of legal age 21+;
- computer skills and e-mail address;
- an opportunity to check your email several times a day;
We trust that your experience will have a great value for our team.
If you want to accept the offer, please register here

The link leads to: http://freud-gmbh.com/?reg

Being that I recently studied the employee training for Western Union less than a month ago, I recognized right away that it was a scam.

Shame on these people for taking advantage of people during these hard times and making them even harder!

Thank you for this post, and hopefully more people will do their research before jumping into a "too good to be true" venture!

I just got an email from "Scott Atchley" stating that I had been selected to be "check assist manager." What a bunch of bullshit! I knew it was a scam right away, I mean, really?

Here's what the email said exactly;

Dear M,
Our Organization is pleased to extend to you an offer for the position of a "Check Assist Manager".
Basic requirements:

- US residency;
- an opportunity to check your email several times a day;
- computer with internet access and e-mail address;
- Responsibility
- Age: at least 21;
We trust that your experience will have a great value for our team.
To apply for this job, please visit our web-site.

Then I was directed to a form on their website at http://frankfurter-gmbh.com/?reg.

They said that they had found my resume on careerbuilder (I never submitted one their) and that the job would pay about $600 a week.

Do not fall for this scam. Like the commenter said above do you really need it explained why this is a scam?

As Natalie said, shame on these bastards! Times are hard enough right now without idiots like this.

Also, next if you google the physical address of this location, "Rue Charles Calmette 6

you will see this is an actual church location by the name of "Charismatic Daughter Congregation of the Christliches Zentrum Berlin" with the same phone number used on the whois of 331 25 72.

So this scammer gives us a church telephone number and supposedly it is is located at this location...

Yeah right. SCAM!!!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is he trying to gain from this scam? Am I supposed to send him my banking info or something? I got the exact same one after applying for an attorney position. It was obviously a scam, but I don't see the point.

Anonymous said...

To anonymous right above me, gee, it's people like you that can't see what's going on although it's pretty clear. Look at the job description.."The general duties of this job is receiving payments [ wire transfers and bank checks ] from our customers in US.
Every money transfer will follow with detailed directions." That means you receive checks and get wire transfers supposedly into your account. Your own checking account and then you take that money and wire or send it somewhere else. Later on the checks you are accepting are determined to be fraud but you've already wired or mailed money elsewhere before that happens. Then you are stuck with the amount you sent out that didn't exist in the first place. So you pay a fee and the checks you get are forgeries and not legitimate. DO YOU THINK ANY SCAMMER IS GOING TO GIVE YOU A CHECK OR A WIRE TRANSFER THAT IS LEGITIMATE IN ANY DOLLAR AMOUNT? Geez!!

Anonymous said...

To anon two above that doesn't see what the scammer gets out of this...is your personal information to supposedly "pay" you and your good money that you send out thinking this job scam is a real job and when the money he supposedly sends to you by check is a forgery and the wire transfer is actually fraudulent overseas. GET WITH IT!!

Anonymous said...

CRAP...me too..it was so real looking...but I went to the web to search and found this....should have known, but being unemployed for way too long makes you do stupid things...let's get these bastards.

They USED my name and last name. Could not believe it, although I recognized the scam right away.

One thing I wanted to tell you all. Just do not be so mean. People who ARE looking for a job, already facing difficult times, being humiliated by these scam emails daily, really DO NOT NEED to receive extra anger for asking a totally legitimate question: what the heck do they want from me? Some of us just do not get money issues, but really, there's no need to be harsh.

I did one of these scams awhile back and turned all the information over to the FBI, who did nothing about it. It is amazing how real their websites look. Suggestion: take the check, deposit the check, but do not send out any money.

I got one today from Carlton Connaly. Carlton wrote, "newly opened vacancy of Check Assist Manager at our Company for USA citizens". Out of Germany and he got my info off of Monster. I'm a farmer and never posted anything on Monster. But I did just by a domain name and the Greek all of the sudden I have been covered up with this kind of stuff, mostly Nigerian and Greek spam. I cant even read the Greek email?

Also, I tried to email the person shown under Tech, Administration support, and it came back to me saying that the user dosen't have a yahoo account... pitekttt949@yahoo.com

Just received one as well from joslyn millard (mhillaardjoslyn@hotmail.com)and when I clicked on the link, it took me to a site called Fruehauf GMBH. The domain name was a .tk domain and guess what? .tk domains do not reveal information about the owner of the domain. So I followed the information provided to report it as a scam to abuse@dot.tk
Guess we will see what they find out or if they can find out anything but I am a little taken aback by the fact that searching for anything on .tk domains is so hampered and that user information cannot be released. What the heck is up with that? WHOIS doesn't even offer .tk domains as a search option.
Guess that's why they are turning to using .tk domains now. Almost impossible for you to find out anything about the person behind the domain.
As an aside, you can tell these scams too by the poor use of English. Just small and basic errors but they are there nonetheless and if you read through what they send to you and it seems labored with wrong words used throughout, it is probably of the scam variety.

I was offered a job as an "account manager" and even got a counterfeit check in the mail from one of them assholes and the worst part is that the FBI didnt even want to investigate it and said maybe the postmaster would look into it. They stole corproate identity, bank accounts and contact information from several (or many) companies and I contacted the companies involved and the one who's name is on the check and they verified that none of it was legitamate. Beware, even the most professional looking opportunities can turn out to be a scam.

Got the same email as those above, here's the address & name it came from: lafertyaracely99@hotmail.com from a supposed: Aracely Laferty.
Also, to those being jerks about people questioning whether or not these are scams and what the point is, WHY DON'T YOU GET WITH IT??? We are in rough times and people are looking for anyway to get an easy payment. Apparently you haven't had the wonderful pleasure of being unemployed for a good period of time, otherwise you wouldn't be so quick to judge. When you can't just run out there and get a normal job, you look for ways on the web to make money from home, especially stay at home moms. However, to those who do question this scam or don't know how to spot one right off, please do some research, just as you probably did in order to get to this site. Google names, email addresses and key words in the email, like "Check Assist Manager". Another way to spot it is that the email address won't match up with the name (although it did in mine). A lot of times it will be like this: John Smith, jacob.andrews@gmail.com or something. They say there are legitimate work at home jobs, but as a stay at home mom of 2, I have been searching for about 4 years and have yet to find one. Good luck with your search, but please be as careful as you possibly can. ALWAYS stay away from anything that includes you using your personal bank account for money to flow through (if it is a wire transfer, why can't they have the "client" wire it straight to their "office", where ever that may be?). That reminds me of a scam my husband & I almost got sucked into. We had some baseball cards, shoes and such on Craigslist for sale and a man in FL emailed saying that he was opening a new shop and would like to purchase all of our items. He said he would arrange a carrier to pick the items up and he mailed us a check and some money orders. I worried about it right away, but my husband wanted so much to believe it was true. I immediately searched any name involved with the ordeal and came up with about 10 different locations, all over the US. I told my husband that we would take the "check" and "money orders" to the bank and have them checked out. The president of the bank called about the check and it was a legitimate check, but out of a closed account. The money orders were real, but had already been cashed. Glad we did the research, but it could have easily gotten us into a lot of trouble. Make no mistake, not all scams are as obvious as this one. There are countries, such as Nigeria where they actually send their children (mostly boys) to school, not to learn History or Science, but to learn how to scam people. They take classes on this stuff, they are not all as dumb as you think. Some scams are easy to get taken by, if you don't do the proper research and checking into it first.

The link goes to some site called: aestquhy@blogspot.com

I accidentally strayed into it but the next page, where it was a form asking for personal information tipped me off that something was wrong. So I do some research, see all the SCAM warnings, and then find this page. Thanks again for helping me out.

I got this email today, and it said the exact same thing. It was from an Althea Torres. I thought at first it was a scam but I clicked the linck anyways just to see what would happen, when I saw the "registration form" and saw that it asked for some information I did some look ups and found this page. Thank you! Cant career builder and the other sites used in the scam email do something to try to track these scammers? can't they at least try to contact the people named in the emails? I dont know maybe I am just not thinking hard enough. anyhow thank you for your blog.

Unfortunately I don't think Career Builder really cares about the people that register and use their services. Sure a nicely written letter will garner an apology and information regarding how much they are concerned for security but tine and time again these fake job offers continue to creep into Career Builder's job database. Monster doesn't care either...I challenge you to email them and to find out how little concern they have for you as a job seeker.

I got this yesterday. I followed the link and it brought me to Cuno Baar's website. They are supposedly a German company. Pretty nice website too; it looked very official. Must be getting some money from somebody. Too bad.

Anonymous said...

I got a Cuno Baar email today. I remember reading about this scam a while back, so I knew not to fall for it. The email used my full name and everything. I'm registered with Career Builder and Monster.com and I hate to think that these scammers are trolling employment sites looking for desperate people. But I know there are going to be some who fall for this. It saddens me that lowlifes like this would take advantage of people, many of whom are in dire straits by being unemployed.

Tribology said...

Hey all, I have recieved this email from at least 5 different names and people. The problem comes as : a couple of these people have a fully operating decent website as well as contact details etc. These people have created a whole back story to make it believable. Secondly they dont ask for any of your details and show absolutely no interest in your personal information.
Of course it is a scam there is no such thing as easy money and I would be very careful in any such offers. It is interesting why the authorities are not taking any action against these people, after any such scam is in the best interest of the Banks who then get to charge us extortionate check bouncing fees etc. While the poor jobless like myself would get ripped off, the banks would get fatter. Perfect indeed.

Anyhow this scam seems to be on the same principle as the Nigerian million dollar transfer thing, except that they would ask for your details including the bank account details.
I was speaking to somebody and they asked me to speak to Attorney Generals office in California who must either know about this or if they dont if I make a complain they will look into it, and take action if possible. I am not sure if I can actually get through and they can assist but trying makes sense. I would suggest anybody else who have some time try as well.
If I am successful I would post the results here.

Many thanks for the blog owner, and others who have confirmed my fears.

Regards

Rehan

I just got one of these Emails and figured by the poor English and suspicious-looking URL that it had to be a scam. Thank goodness for your website... now I know for sure.

Anonymous said...

i got one, is there anyway that we can scam them? do they send a check to your house? please let me know so i can see if i can work around this, if i have to give them my bank account info i wont do it. Has anyone actually gone through the process?

Anonymous said...

I got the same email, word for word... and I was so excited thinking my luck was about to change. That finally, instead of me having to painstakingly file applications and register site, after site, after site... (they all just cave into one another. Why?) Someone CAME TO ME instead of me GOING TO THEM.

I searched for what the hell a check assist manager actually is, and does... because why would you need someone to be a medium for your checks? (Then again... why does steam need to exist to be a locker for all your games? If steam goes down, you can't play your games, and if steam deletes your account, you're fucked.)

Well, like steam... now it makes more sense as a scam. The bad news is while these con-men will probably get caught and sentenced for it, valve won't. And that's if someone actually backtracks these scam artists and confronts them with law enforcement about it.

Either way, I thank God that the first result that came up was you, and copy/pasting what your email said, so I know it isn't just speculation. You saved me a lot of time, disappointment, and possibly getting screwed over big time. I should have known it was a trick, because who the hell writes checks anymore anyway?

But when you need a job badly, and you're being told you can make 500 to 750 a week, you tend to take leaps of faith. Bad idea. But at the same time... waiting too long doesn't breed results. The entire system sucks, and meanwhile anything at all that could help people maintain their jobs, breed new ones, or just help the unemployed, is socialism...

Well then we need a socialist regime.

Is there something we can do to stop this type of fraud?

I recognized this as a scam right off. Bad spelling/grammar and a throw-away email account like hotmail are strong red flags, not to mention the too-good-to-be-true aspect of it.

No mention of exactly where they saw my resume, any job title, nor is there any link included. I assume I'd get that info if I replied. Which I aint gonna do, of course.

If I've read this blog correctly, it seems to always come from a different person and email address. They must have a few folks whose job is to just keep cranking out new hotmail or yahoo email addys.

Well, as much as I'd love to take a full time position with one of their "cusmomers", I don't think I'll be replying to "these email" anytime soon. (And what the heck is a "liabilyty", anyway? Could they have meant "liability"? And why would this opening involve that?? It's fun to watch them struggle with English. I see in the above comment/email, the "vacancy" requires "a responsibiliy". WTH??)

Right now our HR specialists are looking for talented people to help build our organization. The aim of our company is to provide quick, easy, efficient and secure ways for businesses to outsource services locally, nationally and globally to maximize their competitive advantage and cost effectiveness.

There is no limit to the opportunities in our company - so there’s no limit to what you can achieve. Due to close cooperation with Beyond.com, we found that you are still in the market for either a professional or executive job. Your resume indicates that we may have openings that are appropriate to consider.

The description of Financial Services Officer position:
-On-line job which takes about 2-3 hours per day from Monday through Friday;
-permanent Internet access and e-mail availability;
-Free training while your probationary period will be given;
-Base salary is $2,300 per month during the Trial Period + 8% commission from each successfully handled payment. Total income is about $4,500 per month. After the first 30 days your base salary will be increased up to $3,000 a month.

I received the same email as all of you just no business info and my profit was supposed to be between $500 to 750 per week. First of all, if an offer sounds to good to be true than it usually is. Second, I always try to Google information from unexpected job offers as they are usually scams. A real offer for a job would include business information and a contact with phone. And unless there was an inteview there is no talk about compensation. Being unemployed even for a long time is no excuse for falling for these scams. By the way: Only about 5% of work from home business is legit...

I just got one of these "job offers" today via email. The company name this time is "WotanKrier.gmbh." I checked the domain name and traced it back to bizcn.com, inc. -- a known internet scammer. And I agree with the "shame on you" comment of another responder. I've been out of work and looking for any type of work for a long time. There is nothing worse giving someone false hope.

I received the same email today...ISN'T THIS CALLED MONEY LAUNDERING??...HERE IS THE EMAIL..........Your customer has sent you a check for 4926. It is written out to you.
An envelope will be delivered to your address via first class of Regular mail, approximately on 10/10/2012.
Please, let me know, as soon as the check is delivered.

You need to cash the check and send the money via Western Union (Money in Minutes Service) to our customer:
First name: ANASTASIYA
Last name: KARPOVA
City : Saint-Petersburg
Country : Russia

The best ways for you to cash the check are:

1. Deposit the check into an ATM machine of your bank (preferred, because money will be available in 1-2 days or instantly)
2. At Wal*Mart
3. Ace check Express
4. Grocery store
5. At any check cashing or cash advance store
6. At the bank which issued it
7. Cash it at your bank

Please note, that if you transfer money within two business days after receiving the envelope, your commission will be higher.

So if you make the transfer within two business days:
Amount to be sent is 3941
The Western Union commission is 246
Your salary is 739

If you make the transfer later than that (beginning with the third business day):
Amount to be sent is 4286
The Western Union comission is 246
Your salary is 394

Please, deduct all additional fees (if any) from the amount to be sent.

Print out important information from this letter or carefully write it down on paper and check the spelling after filling in the Send Money form. And make sure that the receiver's name is spelled correctly on the Western Union receipt.

As soon as you send the money, please e-mail me the following transfer details:
1. Western Union MTCN (10-digit control number)
2. exact transfer amount
3. the sender's and receiver's names (as shown on the WU receipt)

Thank you,
Financial Manager,
Gerlinde Nussbaum,

Dear Timothy,

there is nothing illegal in cashing checks.
And nobody is breaking the law by sending money through Western Union.
So there is nothing to worry about.
Checks are sent by our clients, who are reliable US companies.

Sometimes it's difficult to cash the check right away because of the amount
or because it's an outer state check. In that case the best way to do
it is to deposit the check into a bank account at any bank and wait until it clears.

I'll try to explain why we work like this.
For example, Mr. Smith wants to pay for some services. Usually he pays
by check. But if he will send a check to our office in Germany (or to
any other country in Europe), it will take
about two weeks for the check to be delivered and about a month
more to clear. So, Mr. Smith sends the check to you (it usually takes 3-4
business days), you take your commission and then
transfer this money to us (or to another customer) through fast money transfer system.
I hope I answered your question.
Please, let me know if you are still interested.

Best regards,
Anke Gerstmann,
Financial Manager,
Kipp Fisch - GMBH mailto:anke@kippfisch-gmbh.com

Gee whiz even the scammers try to make the scam seem more legitimate. They still want you to deposit a fake check with invalid account details and wire money...quickly. it's still a scam!!

On the morning of December 6th, 2012, I to received a email for a check assist manager. I continued to receive these emails through out the day. It seems that since there are so many who have been contacted by these people that there should be something done about this. I am pretty sure that unlike us there have been some people that have, seriously, been effected by these emails

Unknown said...

I just received an email with the same basic format as all of you. ONly difference was that it required me to be a U.S. citizen?... I found this interesting because I recently became a citizen so I'm wondering if somehow they've phished my email account or other media...
I got an email from Berna Shoulders (shogoujuldersboferna@hotmail.com) and Niki Pearce (niki.pearce6477@gmail.com) replied to my reply. Their email addresses were the first red flag.

They also provided me with this website to learn more http://kippfisch-gmbh.com/
and this link to apply
http://kippfisch-gmbh.com/?reg

It looked legitimate but I recently dealt with a business that seemed legit and wasn't, so I decided to search this company and this was the third link option. Thank you all!

I also just received a familiar email with basically the same information you guys posted. Good thing I always google emails and companies before submitting any of my information.

Did this about 5 years ago for shits. There's another site out there how to screw with scammers. Before I knew of the site I decided to take a go with this one. Signed up, got the check 3 months later. Went to my bank, curious individual I am there's a 3 day hold on it if I decided to cash it. Good for having a local smart bank! So I held onto the check. Got a threat letter than I'd be pursued by the FBI for fruad... wish I still had it. Pursued ay? For not even cashing it?

I so wanted to reply and tell them unless they can give me a domain registration, contact information, and tax number, that it would be considered illegal, but decided against it. These folks never cease to find ways to scam others. Thanks.

I received similar emails twice. I called my bank because the company wanted the international routing number of my bank. The rep from my bank told me to check out the site on a scam website and both the companies that sent me emails were on this list.
Being unemployed for awhile I was looking for work at home. If it wasn't for my bank I probably would be up a creek. It doesn't help to have people here criticize anyone for falling for these. They look really official and the websites all work. Times are really hard and finding a job is even harder. Desperate people will resort to desperate measures. It's just a shame that there are people out there that take advantage of others. I am the type of person that takes things at face value. I was raised to believe in people and that most people are honest and just. Technology has destroyed the world. If I could turn back time and return to the days of wine and roses, I would.

Wowww. I'm super glad I found this site. Something told me to search harder. I got an email from Bruns Lamm-GMBH. From a Carin Zachariae also. They sent me a check for 3125 and I'm suppose to take out 469 for my commission and 169 western union fee then send the rest of the money to Kiev, Ukraine. Within two days of receiving the check. I got the check in my bank account as we speak because it's taking four days to clear. Which means tomorrow is suppose to be the day that I send the money out, but now that I've read all these scam blogs. I ain't sending shit over seas. I'm gone play these fuckers the same way they try to play me and everyone else out here struggling to find work. I'm so desperate for work right I fell for anything. I took a picture of the check also and there's a Texas address on there with a number so I called the number a few minutes ago and some lady came on speaking some other language sounds more like gibberish..SMDH at these low life scammers.

This will validate if you are legitimate and will help confirm how your process works."

There was no response from them whatsoever.
This led me to google 'Check Assist Manager Friz Hartmann-GMBH' & was so so relieved to see your blog...and about this SCAM.

Hi everyone,
I received a similar e-mail last night. I was initially suspicious because most employers use an e-mail address which included a company name and they never name the company. Secondly, I have never applied for a job in the financial sector. Thirdly, they misspelled citizenship and wrote "liability" as part of their job requirements. I looked up the names given and couldn't find anything. Beyond.com seems to be the culprit in this case. I found a job listing on glassdoor.com and clicked apply which brought me to beyond.com. I must have given them my information. I have been receiving questionable job leads ever since.
